Papua New Guinea hit by a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake but no tsunami warnings have been issued.
Papua New Guinea is frequently hit by earthquakes and tsunamis due to its location on the edge of The Ring of Fire
An earthquake of 7.3 magnitude hit Eastern New Guinea on Wednesday. There have been no reports of serious damage. Seismologists said the tremor is unlikely to trigger a tsunami as it hit deep underground and inland.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not issue a tsunami alert.
Persons inside the country's Parliament in the capital, Port Moresby, saw windows rattling during the quake, but there was no apparent damage.
Earthquakes are rather common in Papua New Guinea. The country lies on the "Ring of Fire" - an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones that stretches around the Pacific Rim.
