Valletta Subbuteo Club opens new international season by winning in Wales

Valletta Subbuteo Club started Season 2012-2103 with an astonishing performance this weekend winning all games and thus claiming the Gran Prix Trophy in Cardiff for the second consecutive year.

Valletta won their group tournament with full points beating Hot Club Escosse and Cardiff B Team with both games finishing (4-0). In the quarter final they faced Tiburones of Spain and won 3-0 and qualified to the Semi where they faced the Italian Club Sessana beating them (3-1). In the final the City team faced the Belgian club Stembart who at the moment occupies position 1 in the world rankings and won with a convincing score of 3-1 to clinch this title once again.

In the individual categories Joe Borg Bonaci who formed part of the City team was unlucky not to be on the winning side when he lost in the final 0-1 against Belgian player Chris Dheur after shots.

The other individual players all of them qualified from the group stage with Derek Conti losing to Joe Borg Bonaci in the Quarter Final, Jean Carl Tabone lost to Dheur in the Semi Final while Matt Lampitt (one of Valletta foreign players ) bowed out of the tournament at the Quarter Final stage also losing to Dheur. The other city player Chris Thomas was knocked out from the Last 16 losing on shots Jason Pisani the other City player who played in the Veterans Category was eliminated in the Last 16 by Italian player Montana after qualifying from the group stage.

The next tournament which the City club will take part in will be the Champions League being held in Greece between the 27th & 28th October. This will be the first time that the club will be participating in this event after their participation in the Europa League 2 years ago in Rome.
