Court remands antiques thief

27-year-old broke into neighbours’ garage to steal €30,000 worth of antique furniture

A court remanded an unemployed 27-year-old in custody this morning after he appeared before it, charged with the theft of antiques from his neighbours’ garage.

Inspector Josric Mifsud arraigned Siro Lanzon before Magistrate Charmaine Galea on charges of having broken into the garage, which was used to store antiques and which is situated in the same Marsascala road in which the accused lives, on several occasions.

The court heard how the value of the stolen items – antique pieces of furniture and wall clocks – is thought to exceed €30,000.

Lanzon pleaded not guilty.

Lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace, appointed as legal aid for the accused, requested bail. The court refused, however, on the grounds that the accused lives across the road from the owners of the stolen items.
