Court hands probation order to man who trashed ex-girlfriend's apartment

A man who went on the rampage at his ex-girlfriend's apartment, causing hundreds of Euros worth of damages in a rage in July 2013 was handed a probation order this morning today.

42 year-old Vittoriosa resident Marco Vassallo pleaded guilty to charges of threatening his former partner, misuse of communications equipment and breaching the conditions of a previous probation order, under which he had been placed in February 2013.

In her judgment, Magistrate Josette Demicoli noted the circumstances of the case, the man’s criminal record, as well as the fact that he had made good for the damages which he had caused, justice would be better served if he were to be placed under another probation order.

In addition to probation, the court issued a three-year protection order in favour of the accused’s former girlfriend and her family. Magistrate Demicoli explained to Vassallo that if he tried to approach or harass her in any way, he would be fined €1,000.

Lawyer Carm Mifsud Bonnici appeared on behalf of Vassallo.
Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared in parte civile for the woman.

Police Inspector Trevor Micallef led the prosecution.
