Welsh national granted bail after being charged with cannabis possession

A Welsh national living in Malta has been granted bail after he was charged with aggravated possession of cannabis, before a magistrate this morning.

A police surveillance operation had led to 29 year-old Simon Douglas Roberts being caught in possession of almost one kilogramme of the prohibited plant.

Roberts was charged with dealing in cannabis plants and with being in possession of the plant in circumstances which denoted that it was not for his personal use.

Roberts’ lawyers, Giannella Caruana Curran and Gianluca De Marco entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli granted Roberts bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €2500, ordering him to sign a bail book weekly.
