All is set for this evening’s spectacle at the Grand Harbour as Malta celebrates its 50th anniversary since gaining political Independence.

The guest of honour for this golden jubilee celebration is Prince William, whose 24-hour trip to Malta started with a call on President of the Republic Marie Louise Coleiro Preca at San Anton Palace.

The Prince will be staying at the Palace while in Malta.

After a quick tree-planting activity at the Palace’s gardens, the Royal Guest was rushed to Auberge de Castille in Valletta where he was greeted by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, wife Michelle and twin daughters Etoile and Soleil.

In St George’s Square, Prince William inspected the In Guardia and later visited the National Library and inspected historic documents, which included letters from King Henry VIII and George II and the original citation awarding the George Cross to the island.

The short walk from St George’s Square to the National Library gave the general public an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Duke of Cambridge. A lucky few got the chance to shake his hand and speak to him and one girl placed a band around his wrist.

In the evening, he will attend a reception at the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta where he will unveil a plaque. The Grand Harbour Spectacle includes an aeronautical display and fireworks display.

At 8pm, Prince William, the President and the Prime Minister will be addressing guests at the Upper Barrakka.
