Paqpaqli supercar crash in the foreign press

Supercrash at car charity event Paqpqali ghall-Istrina reported by foreign press 

Sunday’s supercar crash during the Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina charity motorshow was carried up by several international news agencies and websites.

The BBC, Sky News, the Guardian, the Washington Post, NBC News, ITV, Fox News, the Independent, the Telegraph, the Evening Standard, the Daily Mail, the Mirror, Xinhua, and automobile news websites Jalopnik and Car Throttle, were amongst those who picked up the news.

The BBC featured the accident on its website’s home page, with the headline ‘Malta motor show crash leaves many injured’. At the time of writing, it is one of the website’s top six stories in the ‘Europe’ section.

Sky News added some background on Paul Bailey, the British billionaire behind the wheel of the Porsche 918 Spyder, reporting that he had sold his teleconferencing business for £28 million in 2012, and that he has raised thousands for charity be raffling off rides in some of his supercars. 

The Telegraph reported that Bailey, a self-made millionaire from the East Midlands, has a collection of over 30 supercars, including the £780,000 Porsche Spyder, a £866,000 McLaren P1 and a £1.2 million customized Ferrari. He is believed to be the first person to get his hands on all three of the world’s most sought-after hypercars.

The Daily Mail described the crash as a ‘horror’ and included video footage of the aftermath of the incident in its article.

Across the pond, the Washington Post, Fox News and NBC News all reported the tragedy with the latter going into detail about the president’s reaction to cancel a foreign visit and confirm that a magisterial inquiry was underway to understand the culpability of the case.
