UNHCR is supporting Islelanders, a photographic project launched by award-winning photojournalist Darrin Zammit Lupi, documenting the lives of asylum seekers and migrants through and after their journey across the Mediterranean Sea. His work has featured extensively in national media as well as in a range of international publications.

The project will be implemented throughout this year, exploring the impact of artistic photography as it is shared with the general public on both online and offline platforms.

The Islelanders project commenced in February 2014 with the launch of an online photo collection, supported by several social media platforms. New photos will be added to the collection every week, presenting people and issues as captured through the lens.

The project will culminate in a photographic exhibition at the Upper Galleries, St James Cavalier in December 2014, accompanied by the publication of a large-scale hardcover photobook, spanning more than a decade of boat arrivals in Malta.

The project is supported by the Malta Arts Fund and Avantech Ltd, local agents for Canon.
