Notte Bianca | Music Memory Project
With its official launch during Notte Bianca, the Malta Music Memory Project (M3P) will bring together music enthusiasts and professionals to explore how a national memory of music in Malta can be preserved for generations to come
The M3P inaugural symposium is at 14:00 to 17:00, followed by the M3P Networking workshop at 18:00 to 21:00 at St James Cavalier. The symposium will have live music by Rita Pace and Jon Mallia and will gather academics, researchers, archivists, journalists, broadcasters and creative industry professionals around a number of presentations and a round table discussion on preserving Maltese music in a digital environment. Live music will be held between presentations.
An M3P networking workshop will take place at St James Cavalier, starting with a live acoustic gig by Sasha and Sam in the St James Cavalier Music Room. Key stakeholders from the M3P team will also demonstrate how entries to the database can be submitted by anyone interested in contributing collaboratively to the preservation of the collective and personal memories. Performers and music lovers are invited to see how their own entries can also be created and updated live for all to see. The proceedings for this part of the M3P launch will also include a VJ session with Alfie Fabri, addressing the need for a video archive of Maltese music.
The ‘M3P Music You Don’t Often Hear on the Radio’ will take place at 22:00 onwards at Hastings Garden featuring R.A.S, Momento, Lesser Gods, Norm Rejection, Loathe and Forsaken.
With a general appeal for all music lovers, regardless of age or their preferred style, this varied programme will incorporate live Maltese music across different genres, ranging from the traditional għana to hip hop, and live electronic to heavy metal. The M3P project aims to build a comprehensive multimedia database and gateway to the creation of a national collection of artefacts from the Maltese music scene and associated arts. Created by Toni Sant, with support from the University of Hull’s School of Art and New Media as well as the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, M3P was designed to raise awareness of the project across a varied spectrum of interested individuals and organisations.
