Popular artist Alfred Chircop passes away

Celebrated Maltese artist Alfred Chircop passes away aged 82.

Celebrated local artist Alfred Chircop has passed away, aged 82. Chircop is widely considered as being one of Malta’s most important contemporary Maltese artists.

Alfred Chircop is also considered as Malta’s greatest exponent of abstract art. He attended the Malta School of Art, the Accademia Pietro Vannucci in Perugia, Bath Academy of Art at Corsham UK and Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome.

His works are found in private and public collections in Malta and across the world.

Since 1960, Chircop took part in various exhibitions in Malta and abroad. He also taught at primary, secondary, sixth form and at the Faculty of Architecture in Malta where he spent the last years of his teaching career as Senior Lecturer.

He passed away today at Mater Dei Hospital. He was 82.
