Calamatta Cuschieri Cancer Foundation collects €4,200

The Calamatta Cuschieri Cancer Foundation collected €4,200 on Sunday from a fundraising walk led by Malta’s singing doctor Gianluca Bezzina.

The bulk of the donations came from a €10 contribution by participants in return for a free T-shirt commemorating the event. The €2,100 collected from these donations were then doubled by Calamatta Cuschieri to give the fund an added boost.

Taking advantage of the great weather on the day, more than 200 people walked along the Sliema promenade from Chalet to St Julian's and back.

Personal trainer Richard Geres organised a warm-up before the walk while Gianluca Bezzina and his band closed off the event with a performance.

The Health Department set up a stand providing advice about living healthily to all those present and has also supplied the Calamatta Cuschieri offices in Valletta with relevant material to share with its clients.

The CC Cancer Foundation works closely with the Health Department to collect funds aimed at providing the most advanced cancer treatment and facilities to those in need. The foundation also promotes healthy living through activities that bring people together.

"It was very encouraging to receive so much support from the public. We will now keep working to strengthen this fund so it can make a real difference to people's lives," said Alan Cuschieri, a Director at Calamatta Cuschieri and one of the main catalysts behind the foundation.

"This is just the first of many events that we shall be hosting and we hope to be able to make a difference with the money collected. Our plans for next year will be released shortly on our website and Facebook page so keep an eye out for updates," said Mr Cuschieri.

Calamatta Cuschieri is proud to have Gianluca Bezzina on board because he shares the same values of the company.

"It is a pleasure to be able to use my music for such positive initiatives especially in the health sector which is so close to my heart," Gianluca said.
