The musical talent show X Factor Malta has managed to take the crown of Malta’s most viewed programme on Television Malta from Xarabank, breaking the long-standing record of the Friday chat-show.
As expected, the audition-based reality show X Factor Malta became Sunday’s most viewed programme on TVM but also beat Xarabank’s Friday night viewership records.
The Broadcasting Authority (BA) survey for the month of October showed that a total of 90,656 viewers are watching TVM on Sundays at around 9pm, when X Factor is on.
This is 21,000 more than those tuning in to Xarabank on a Friday night. Xarabank had 69,361 viewers in October.
The X Factor Malta Facebook page lit up with the announcement that it;s now the most watched programme in all Malta and Gozo across all stations and time-bands.
The only other segment that beats X Factor Malta is the news on TVM with 123,000 tuning in on a Tuesday night, another 114,420 on a Wednesday night and 109,000 on a Friday evening.
The BA survey revealed that TVM remains the most popular station on television with 35.41% of all viewers tuning in, followed by a foreign station and ONE.
As many as 274,000 persons (aged 12 years and over), or 60.7% of the population followed television regularly during October 2018. Compared to previous data, there was an increase of 4.9% of viewers over the previous assessment period of July 2018.
Despite X Factor boosting television ratings, there was a minimal decrease of 1% viewership when compared to same period last year.
The average number of hours spent watching television amounts to 1.84hrs per viewer.
