Couple arrested after attempting to steal lotto collection box

Police are investigating an attempted robbery, allegedly committed by a man and a female accomplice earlier this afternoon.

The Rapid Intervention Unit were on sit within 20 minutes of the report filed, arresting both suspects in Ħaż-Żebbuġ in two different places after they split up upon seeing the police.

Both the man and the woman are known to the police.

First reports indicate that they entered a Maltco lotto branch on Vjal il-Ħelsien in Ħaż-Żebbuġ, and allegedly tried to steal a collection box. The owner of the lotto shop pressed the alarm button and police responded immediately.
