Man admits to harassing and threatening ex-girlfriend

The man was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to undergo alcohol abuse treatment, with a protection order also being issued

A British man has been placed on probation and ordered not to approach his former girlfriend after he admitted to harassing and threatening her.

In court before magistrate Joe Mifsud this morning, Englishman Martyn Paul Underwood, 41, of Birzebbugia pleaded guilty to harassing and causing his girlfriend to fear violence. No details of the incident emerged in court today.

Underwood’s lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace told the court that the accused who works and lives in Malta would be residing at an alternative address to the home he previously shared with the woman.

The court, in view of the guilty plea, sentenced the man to three years of probation, together with a three-year protection order in favour of the woman as well as a treatment order for alcohol abuse.

The court imposed a ban on the publication of the victim’s name.

Inspector Roderick Attard prosecuted.
