Daring jewellery thief scams prospective ‘buyer’

A woman posing as a gold seller made off with prospective buyer’s own gold bracelet, slipping it off her with the excuse of trying on a new bracelet.

Weekly newspaper Illum reports how the theft took place in San Gwann on Wednesday, leaving onlookers stunned at the audacity of the thief.

According to witnesses, Illum reports that the thief was a woman who claimed to be selling gold jewellery. The thief approached another woman in the street, offering to show her a gold bracelet

Without waiting for the woman’s consent or even reaction to the offer, the thief took her arm with the offer to place the bracelet on her wrist. However, the thief undid the clasp on the woman’s own bracelet instead.

Before the woman could realise, the thief had escaped and quickly entered a vehicle that was waiting nearby.

Illum also reports that a similar theft also took place in Hamrun only days ago.
