Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi caught out
The Sunday newspaper Illum reveals details of the warnings government heard over the country's financial situation during a high-level meeting which Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi dismissed as a “fantasy”.
Weekly newspaper Illum reports what went on behind closed doors during a sensitive meeting held on 19 July at 1:30pm within the Finance Ministry.
The report says that within the meeting that Gonzi to this day insists did not take place, permanent secretary Alfred Camilleri delivered ominous warnings over how Malta is being mentioned abroad.
During the meeting, Camilleri insisted that “it is not what we say that matters, but what the perceptions are within the markets,” also calling for budgetary decisions that could not wait any longer.
