PN’s social media front tells fans Labour ‘ahead by thousands of votes’

Lawrence Gonzi loses the tie and dons new air of confidence in social media promo.

Wanted, ideas. And thousands of votes, PN tells mychoice.pn subscribers.

Paul Borg Olivier, the not-so-visible secretary-general of the Nationalist Party, is being reintroduced to a new, younger demographic thanks to the PN's social media campaign mychoice.pn.

It is unlikely that Borg Olivier himself is doing the dirty work when those personalised emails drop into your inbox (Lawrence Gonzi's son Paul receives the emails and suggestions to the website), but this new social media tool is helping the PN open up a bit more. With his bad track record in email sending, Borg Olivier is appearing somewhat more adept at the game.

Even Gonzi's image has been spruced up: gone is the shell-shocked look, while the open necktie and his snappy delivery in Maltese lends him a more confident air.

Apart from the splendid opportunity that social media gives users who are willing to contribute their ideas to the PN (whether they are taken on board, is another matter), the up-tempo mood of the campaign is betrayed by the ominous clouds of electoral defeat. Or at least that's what the PN wants its followers to think:

"The coming election, whenever it may be, is not going to be an easy one. The Labour Party is ahead by thousands of votes, which is why we need you on board to succeed," Paul Borg Olivier tells mychoice.pn users.

"Elections are about ideas, about your future - and we believe that you have a say in all this... Your ideas will help us shape the future."
