Hospital forced to transfer MRI appointments to private hospital after Mater Dei’s equipment breaks down.
Mater Dei Hospital is planning on getting a second MRI scanner by next year as requests for MRI tests are on the rise.
Sunday newspaper Illum also reports that a technical fault in the hospital's MRI equipment forced the hospital to outsource the service until the equipment is repaired. The outsourcing is costing the government €196,000.
According to a health ministry spokesperson, requests for MRI tests increased by 14% during the first six months of this year when compared to the same period last year.
