Finance minister denies Air Malta CEO’s salary is tax-free

Finance minister denies that Air Malta CEO’s salary is tax-free, and hits out at Labour newspaper for not ‘verifying the information' beforehand.

Labour organ Kullħadd on Sunday reported that the newly-appointed Air Malta chief executive officer Peter Davies’s €500,000 salary is tax-free. However, the Ministry of Finance rubbished the report, describing it as “totally incorrect without any hint of truth”.

In its statement, the Ministry said the newspaper did not contact neither Air Malta nor the Finance Ministry to verify its information.

“Unfortunately, this incorrect story continues to add to the campaign of misinformation which does not help Air Malta’s restructuring process,” it said.

“Davies’ conclusive salary, including the performance bonus, is of €448,000. Tax will be paid on the whole income.”

The Ministry also said that Davies will enjoy from all the benefits which all Managers at Air Malta are entitled to.

Davies has joined the national airline following his position as managing director of Air Southwest in the UK.
