Firefighters from the Civil Protection Department responded within minutes when a fire broke out in the garage of Mosta Bacon in Hope Street in Mosta.

The fire was noticed just after midnight by residents and also the owner of Mosta Bacon. First on site were the District Police from Mosta Police Station led by WPS Rodene Ghirxi and a unit from the Rapid Intervention Unit. On their arrival they found a freezer van engulfed in flames.

CPD personnel from the Xemxija Fire Station arrived shortafter and managed to bring the fire under control before it spread to other trucks and equipment that was in the garage.

The freezer van was badly damaged and a car, a Toyota, that was parked close to the van also sustained some damage but was saved in time by the firefighters.

At this point it is believed that the fire started by a short circuit in the freezer. Police are still investigating.
