10 Ghanaian migrants repatriated

10 failed asylum seekers are repatriated to Ghana, home affairs ministry says

The home affairs ministry today said that 10 failed asylum seekers were repatriated to Ghana.

“We have been given reassurances that the repatriated persons’ rights will be upheld and be treated with dignity according to human rights,” the statement said.

The repatriation, the ministry said, followed diplomatic talks and the “application of  the EU repatriation programme for failed asylum seekers.”

The migrants flew out to Accra on a flight organized by the immigration police. The flight reached its destination this morning.

Ghanaian authorities provided the necessary documents after representatives of the Western African stationed in Libya nation visited Malta.

The ministry noted that the flight was part funded by the EU.

Earlier this month, the government reached an agreement with Nigeria to repatriate up to 155 failed asylum seekers.
