Government 'committed to delivering positive results in aviation industry' - Zammit Lewis

'Decision-makers are reachable and in constant listening mode'

Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis expressed his confidence that there is “a great deal that can be achieved in the local aviation sector”. He said the government was “aware that business aviation is an over-regulated sector” but noted that this was necessary for safety.

The minister, speaking at the 3rd Annual Mediterranean business aviation conference, reiterated the government’s commitment to “delivering positive results within the industry” by striving to keep Malta financially attractive for all interested operators.

Zammit Lewis said that, on the suggestion the Aviation Advisory Committee, the government has begun the process of seeing to amendments to the Aircraft Registration Act, explaining that the process has been complicated by the current political instabilities in the Mediterranean region.

“This is a European Member State of political stability, where decision-makers are reachable and in constant listening mode” said the minister, listing Malta’s positive geographical, economical and skill-based attributes.

In closing, he encouraged all industry players to meet and exceed customer expectations and continue to work with government towards building a better industry.
