Planning board sanctions 1999 works at Portomaso beachclub

Portomaso lighthouse to be demolished and reconstructed at a higher level

The Planning Board has given its planning consent for the existing lighthouse at the Portomaso Development Complex to be demolished and reconstructed at a higher level with an underlying store and also sanctioned works which were carried out back in the late 1990s in and around the approved Beach Club and Marina area.

The Planning Board agreed with the conclusions of the Planning Directorate, that the sanctioned works are not considered to have an adverse impact on the surroundings and still respect the general thrust of the local plan policy for this area.

In assessing this planning application, the Directorate noted the existing boathouses for which sanctioning was being sought, do not impinge negatively on the area and do not exceed the height of the existing sea-wall. In relation to the beach club facilities, the Directorate noted that considering that stores are completely below the beach club’s level, they do not create a visual impact in the overall context.
