In pictures | Major emergency drill at MIA

A major airport emergency excercise was held this morning at the Malta International Airport.

The first exercise simulated an emergency when an aircraft sustained undercarriage failure on landing.

The second scenario involved dangerous cargo which in simulation caught fire on board an aircraft.

Airport fire crews backed by the Civil Protection Department engaged in the rescue operations where dead and wounded were involved.

Ambulance crews from Mater Dei Hospital were also dispatched.dangerous burning cargo. In this case the men are wearing full protective clothing and breathing equipment.

The exercise also involved the AFM, the Civil Aviation Directorate, the police, Malta Red Cross, St John Rescue Corps, Malta Air Traffic Services, the DOI, Emirates, Lufthansa and Air Malta.
