Arsonists target school books for second time in recent weeks

Arsonists set fire to the library of the boys' secondary school in Hamrun, igniting the books and a computer with flammable liquid.

In a statement, the Education Ministry strongly condemned the incident. A week ago unknown persons also set fire to books stored in a store in the same school.

The ministry pointed out that last night's arson attack coincided with a book fair being held in the library. The ministry said how among the books burnt were even took volumes of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica, which were removed from their shelves by the arsonists.

A computer, located in the library, was also set on fire. The damage was discovered by a school employee who got there early before the school children are scheduled to arrive and informed the police immediately.

Minister Dolores Cristina appalled to the public for donations of books so that this school library can be reequipped and keep providing a service to the students attending the Hamrun school.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli is holding an inquiry.
