Labour MP calls for greater security in recreational areas for children
Labour MP Justyne Caruana says Chadwick Lakes’ incident where boy fell two-storey drop in lake shows need for greater security in such areas.
Caruana is calling for greater security in recreational areas used for children after eight-year old Luke Micallef fell two storeys in the dried out lake ditch.
“The Chadwick Lakes incident is not the first of its kind. There is an imminent need for these places to be furnished appropriately. Such concerns were already voiced by the previous Childrens’ Commissioner Carmen Zammit in her annual report,” Caruana said.
The Labour MP said recreational areas must have high standards that ensure safety and can avoid accidents and tragedies. “We join in the appeal of Luke Micallef’s family so that our authorities can be proactive in addressing such dangers to our children.”
