Anti-gay, anti-Islam, anti-migrant Brigitte Bardot tells Malta: stop eating horse

Ah, zut alors! Eating horse is so bad that far-right supporter Brigitte Bardot has told Malta prime minister Joseph Muscat to ban the practice

Malta’s delicacy for horsemeat has come under attack by French actress – and notorious far-rightist – Brigitte Bardot, who penned a letter to Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

The 82-year-old animal rights activist told Muscat that Malta was now a “hell for animals” and that she often received letters from tourists shocked by the way horses were “left to their fate in a shocking state of decrepitude”.

Bardot said this was down to the fact that the Maltese still eat horsemeat and suggested Muscat ban the “monstrous aberration”.

“The horse, like the dog, is a life companion not an edible product. Sometimes politicians show courage, maybe you are one of them?”

Now an animal rights activist, Bardot has for some time been an outspoken supporter of Marine Le Pen’s anti-immigration Front National party, which topped the vote in European elections earlier this year amid widespread discontent with the Socialist government over record unemployment and the stagnant economy.

“I hope she [Ms Le Pen] saves France. She is the Joan of Arc of the 21st century,” Bardot said. Burned at the stake for heresy in 1431, Joan of Arc is a Roman Catholic saint, sometimes referred to as the “mother of the French nation”.

In her 2003 book, Un cri dans le silence (A Scream in the Silence), she warned of an “Islamicization of France”, and said of Muslim immigration: “Over the last twenty years, we have given in to a subterranean, dangerous, and uncontrolled infiltration, which not only resists adjusting to our laws and customs but which will, as the years pass, attempt to impose its own.”

In the book, she contrasted her close gay friends with today’s homosexuals, who “jiggle their bottoms, put their little fingers in the air and with their little castrato voices moan about what those ghastly heteros put them through” and that some contemporary homosexuals behave like “fairground freaks”.

In the last election, Bardot said that centrist candidate and now French president Emanuel Macron had no empathy with animals.

“The contempt he gives to animal suffering can be seen in the total lack of empathy reflected in the coldness of his steel eyes,” she said.

In justifying her support for the Front National, Bardot said she was raised by a father and a grandfather who fought for France and instilled in her a love of her homeland. “I am not proud of what France is today… I’m not a ‘facho’ [fascist], any more than Marine Le Pen is. Marine Le Pen has the will to take France in hand, to restore borders and give priority to the French.”
