Unions welcome de Marco's move to Hexagon House

Unions want de Marco to spend more than one week at odorous Hexagon House...

Unions representing the employees at Hexagon House have welcomed a bold initiative by parliamentary secretary for the environment and tourism Mario De Marco, to spend a week inside the building and see for himself as to the origins of odours that have plagued the building in the last years.

“The unions welcome this bold initiative and wish that such a move is extended not for one week but for a longer period in order to realistically experience the poor air quality problem in the building and the surrounding port area,” the Union Haddiema Maqghuding and MEPA’s professional officers union UPAP said.

“However, the unions believe that whoever took this decision is putting at risk the health of those employees since it was confirmed during a meeting held with MEPA management yesterday that health concerns exist within the building.

“As an advanced and responsible country, decisions are taken on scientific evidence and not on personal judgments and hence the reason why an agreement was reached between MEPA and Management for scientific and risk studies to be carried out by experts prior to the offices being re-occupied.”
