Liquigas blames Easygas for lack of gas cylinders
Liquigas claims the issue of lack of gas cylinders has been largely created because Easygas has been “hoarding” thousands of Liquigas’s green and yellow cylinders.
In a statement issued this evening, Liquigas claimed Easygas Ltd has been picking up Liquigas cylinders from the market and not returning them to Liquigas despite a number of requests from Liquigas.
The gas company insisted how in the last four months, it has been constantly asking the Authorities to respect, enforce and ensure that Liquigas cylinders are returned to their rightful owners.
“It seems that the Authorities are unable to persuade Easygas to return the thousands of cylinders to their rightful owners.”
“We can't go on this way. Liquigas understands and would like to express its concern for the gas distributors. We can buy as many cylinders as we can, but if the hoarding by Easygas is not stopped by the Authorities, the problem is going to persist,” said Roberto Capellutto CEO of Liquigas Malta Ltd.
“The immediate priority is that the Authorities take action and order the immediate release of the Liquigas cylinders hoarded at Easygas,” Capelluto said.
The company went on to explain how since November 2009, Liquigas has bought and put on the Maltese market 56,000 new cylinders.
“This means that in the last 17 months, Liquigas has introduced an average of 3,300 new cylinders per month,” it said, adding that the new cylinders are in the distinct Liquigas' green color.
“As part of its ongoing commitment to quality and safety, last year Liquigas started a re-testing exercise to ensure that cylinders comply to EU and local regulations,” the company added.
