The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights group reports that a young girl and six soldiers were among the 26 killed in Syria protests and clashes between troops and army deserters.

The girl, reportedly an 8-year-old, was among the 16 civilians. The bodies of another five missing people were found in the Homs region.

AFP reports that the clashes came as protest organisers called for nationwide demonstrations, demanding the Arab League to suspend Syria's membership in the league.

The Arab League had presented Syria's President Bashar al-Assad with a peace plan. But so far, Syria has so far failed to comply with the peace plan, despite the promises made by al-Assad.

"Security forces arrested three wounded people in a private hospital" in Homs, and several others were detained in Jassem, in southern Daraa province, the human rights group said.

Sources in the northwestern province of Idlib told AFP that people who were protesting were being forced by security forces to reopen closed shops following a general strike.
