Iraq Prime Minister blamed for Baghdad bombs
Iraq’s Vice-President Tariq al-Hashemi blames Prime Minister Nouri Maliki for Thursday’s explosions in Baghdad which killed 68 and injured almost 200.
Dozens were killed in a series of explosions across Baghdad on Thursday and Iraq’s Vice-President Tariq al-Hashemi has blamed Prime Minister Nouri Maliki for the violence outbreaks.
An arrest warrant has been set for Hashemi who said that Maliki should not be focusing on chasing politicians like himself but should be paying attention to security.
Hashemi is one of the country’s most well known Sunni politicians and denied accusations of orchestrating terror attacks on officials and security forces.
The Sunni politician said that Maliki should be blamed for the attacks and that the Iraqis should be worried because the government was too busy attacking politicians instead of terrorists resulting in security services being directed in the wrong direction.
The attack on Thursday was the worst to hit Iraq in months and came shortly after US troops were withdrawn following almost nine years of military appointment.
Car and roadside bombs exploded in 16 separate locations resulting in the death of at least 68 people and injuring almost 200.
The first 13 bombs were set to go off in the morning as people went to work and the last three followed throughout the day with schools and kindergartens included in the set of targets.
