During an informal EU summit, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said that EU leaders want Greece to remain in the euro zone if commitments are respected by the country.

Van Rompuy said for Greece to prevail over its economic problems, ‘vital reforms’ were necessary.

Despite the euro zone crisis and preparations for the possible exit of Greece from the single currency, Van Rompuy said the EU wanted the country to remain in the euro area.

Some €150 billion has been disbursed in support of Greece since 2010 from the euro zone together with International Monetary Fund.

Van Rompuy said that EU would help Greece to return to economic growth and job creation should continuing reforms be followed.
