Overseas Stun Marsa

On Saturday the MCA Cricket Summer league came to an end with Marsa C.C playing Overseas C.C, Overseas still looking for their first win.

The Overseas batted first and had a magnificent start by Phil Gibbs and Paul Bradley who put on a fifty seven run partnership before Bradley retired scoring thirty three runs which included three fours. Gibbs was soon out lbw after making his highest score of the tournament of twenty one runs.

Mike Caruana also produced his best innings scoring forty six runs nor out from twenty nine balls which included six fours. Alex Taylor batted well for nineteen runs while Jim Hunter made four not out. With extras the Overseas left their best batting performance for last totalling 155 runs. This was the competitions highest score. For Marsa Justin Farrin Thorne and Tony Slater were the only wicket takers.
In reply Mark G Sacco and Sam Aquilina gave Marsa an equally good start putting on a fifty run partnership before Sacco retired after making thirty five runs which included two fours.

Aquilina was soon caught for twenty runs. Sunny Krishna played an important role scoring thirty two runs not out which had the Marsa team on the edge of their seats to see if they could muster up a win. Tony Slater put some flavour into the innings by scoring fifteen valuable runs. In the end the Overseas C.C stood firm and held the Marsa team to 143 runs. A great victory for the Overseas team. Paul Bradley took two wickets while Jim Hunter and Alex Taylor took a wicket each.

Last Tuesday the Marsa C.C took on the navy ship HMS Middleton, where the home team batted first and scored 120 runs in the twenty over encounter. Peter Boros top scored with thirty eight runs which included two fours. Dom Johnson scored twenty one runs while Sam Aquilina made seventeen. For the Navy ship four bowlers took a wicket each. The Navy ship went for the runs and took a high risk approach which did not pay any dividends and were bowled out for 63 runs, Mason being their top scorer with twenty seven runs. For Marsa Sam Aquilina was the main wicket taker with three, Malcolm Crabbe took two while Sean Bradley, Robert Krishna, Gordon Hewitt, Mark G Sacco and Dom Johnson all took a wicket each. Marsa win the game.

On Saturday the Malta Select team played the Rest where the Rest finally won. A fine bowling performance by Chris Riorden demolished the Select team by taking a five wicket haul. The Rest had made 118 runs from their twenty overs with Dhruv Duggal top scoring with forty four runs and John Grima twenty two. The select team only made 88 runs with Dave Borg top scoring with twenty one runs.

Next weekend sees plenty of cricket with the Marsa team playing against new touring team Bounders C.C from the U.K. in a two game series. On Sunday the Women's cricket league continues.
