Marsa C.C continue good form

On Saturday the last game of the second round of the Cricket Winter league was played between Marsa C.C and Krishna C.C.

The Krishna team won the toss and elected to field first. Sarfraz Ali and Sam Aquilina opened the batting  and were going at a run a ball before Ali was bowled for nine runs. Aquilina managed to retire after facing thirty balls and ended on twenty two runs. The innings of the day came from Derek Ali who scored a brilliant fifty five runs from thirty balls.

He scored two sixes and five fours along the way. This was the innings which defined the game. After that Ronnie Sacco scored nine runs, Frank Spiteri eight runs, and Jai Kumar five runs and four runs a piece for Hamza and Dameon Willis.

The Marsa team totalled 122 runs, just missing out on a bonus batting point had they made 125. For Krishna Nowell Khosla and Justin Thorne were the main wicket takers with two a piece. Ravi Kumar took one.

With just a fraction over a run a ball, could Krishna overtake Marsa at the top.

Dave Borg and Tim Wheeler opened the batting. Both were doing well until there was a misunderstanding in calling between wickets where a run was called on a misfiled, Borg had sprinted the first run hard and had overlapped the crease by a couple of meters and unfortunately did not make it back to the other end.

Wheeler went on to make twenty one runs before being caught. Ronnie Sacco claimed two wickets in an over and later took the wicket of Nowell Khosla which put the Krishna team under the hammer. Mike Caruana was their last hope with Will Nicholls (three runs) and Robert Scerri (sixteen runs not out) doing very well.

Caruana managed to score thirty three runs from twenty seven balls but was not enough as the twenty overs were up. The Krishna team totalled 101 runs. For Marsa Derek Ali capped of his fifty with two wickets.
