Malta Drifting Championship

The Malta Drifting Association is holding its first round of the Malta Drifting Championship this coming Saturday at Hal Far Raceway.

Following two years of holding independent events and also hosting international Drifting events in Malta MDA will this year start with its local championship.

In the past 2 years MDA has worked to have one off events for local drifters. This helped to improve their skills and also give the opportunity to more drivers to become more acquainted to this sports.

Also in this time Malta was host to 2 international events one of which was the European finals of one of the most popular drift series in Europe 'Drift Allstars'. This helped to put Malta on the international map of Drifting events and has become popular with quite a few international drivers.

These international events gave also the Maltese drivers the opportunity to race and learn and be with real European drift champions.

We saw also a local driver go and compete in international events. The results here where good results given that locally the practice for such sports is quite limited as to the lack of a regular training grounds.

Lately with the help of the Malta Motorsport Federation, Malta Drag Racing Association and KMS, grounds at Hal far race way have been made available for temporary training grounds. With this in place we saw the improvement of our local drivers. MDA training sessions and events are possible also with the great help of the Islad Car Club which offer their continuous support.

Now we saw that its the time to start with a real local championship which will kick of this coming Friday.

We shall see our local drivers giving their utmost to finish on top at the end of the 2013 season. We shall be having 2 categories, Rookie class which is the class for beginners and Amateur class which is a class for the more practiced drivers. This year twin drifts will not be carried out as part of the competition but we shall also have twin drift demo runs for the general public to understand the top level of competition for drifting how it is held. This decision was taken to give chance to our drivers to get more confident with the sport and improve their skills.

Later on this year MDA is also looking at inviting drivers from Sicily to take part in one of the rounds of the 2013 championship. We shall be also seeing local drivers taking part in competitions in sicily as we have a very good relationship with drivers and organizers there.
