10-year-old wins EUROMED

It was indeed a year of records for the 16th Edition of the MAPFRE/Middlesea EUROMED Regatta held over the past three days in Mellieha Bay.

A  record entry of 230 sailors, from a record of 17 countries represented and won by a 10-year-old boy, the youngest of all sixteen Euromed (2000-2015) winners.

The proud winner is Richard Schultheis born on the 18th April 2005, a member of the Malta Young Sailors Club, who raced for Malta in the Cadets Class.

The final results of the 3-day Regatta, where competitors were divided into five classes, were:

Overall Winner: Richard Schultheis (MLT) who raced in the Optimist - Cadets Class.

Optimist - Beginners Class (16 sailors)

1st Daniel Ciantar (MLT); 2nd Francesco Balzano (ITA); 3rd Antonio Adornato (ITA).

Optimist - Cadets Class (60 sailors)

1st Richard Schultheis (MLT); 2nd Marco Gradoni  (ITA); 3rd Daniel Cante (SLO).

Optimist - Seniors Class (109 sailors)

1st Victoria Schultheis (MLT); Craig Farrugia Vella (MLT); 3rd Matthew Micallef (MLT)

Laser Radial Class (9 sailors)

1st Loghlen Rickard (IRL); 2nd Justin Busuttil (MLT); Karl Miggiani (MLT).

Laser 4.7 Class (36 sailors)

1st Salvatore Scuito (ITA); 2nd Matilda Nicholls (GBR); 3rd Zachery Zammit (MLT).

The 16th MAPFRE/Middlesea EUROMED Regatta was organised by the Malta Young Sailors Club with the cooperation and support of Yachting Malta, the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport, and the Mellieħa Local Council.  Euromd is held under the patronage of the Malta Sailing Federation. The db Seabank Resort + Spa of Mellieha is the official hotel of the Regatta.
