Journalist Patrick J O' Brien will host a television documentary on Malta to be screened on US TV focusing on the Island's digital economy. Malta is known globally as the world’s 'blockchain island' because of the Maltese government’s approach to the emerging technology. Whilst other countries’ fear rises, Malta, on the other hand, has seen the advantages that the digital ledger technologies can offer and have been at the forefront in embracing this technology. The blockchain and crypto industry continue to help Malta grow its economy which has turned to tech companies for a competitive edge in Europe and to compensate for the lack of natural resources in the country.

Malta’s economy is highly reliant on the service industry with the gambling industry alone accounting for over 12% of the economy. Last July, the Parliament of Malta approved a regulatory framework for blockchain technology, making Malta one of the most ‘blockchain-friendly’ countries in the world. This prompted many companies including the largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, to decide on a relocation to Malta. Binance itself handles a daily volume of transactions ranging at some $1.6 billion. It was announced that OKEx is planning on relocation, with its $1.5 billion in daily trading volume.

With such players taking up base at the island, Bloomberg reported that Malta is on track to become 'the envy of its European neighbours’ "Blockchain is the future and the future is digital,” stated Presenter Patrick J O Brien. "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to showcase the innovators of this industry as Malta becomes the go-to place for global crypto and blockchain giants," he added.

The hour-long documentary will feature interviews with high profile players who have transformed Malta's digital landscape.
