Trailer Park | Thor

Following a grainy, Comic Con leaked teaser last summer, Marvel finally releases a polished preview of its next superhero smash, culled from Norse mythology and directed by veteran Shakespearean Kenneth Branagh.

When Thor (Chris Hemsworth) - erstwhile god of thunder - is banished from the heavenly kingdom of Asgard by his father, the god of gods Odin (Anthony Hopkins), he plummets onto Earth to be discovered by a team of scientists led by Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).

His supernatural abilities draw the attention of SHIELD - the governmental taskforce you'll remember from the Iron Man films - and as trouble brews both above and below (with Thor's conniving brother Loki - played by Tom Hiddleton - now scheming his way up to the Asgard's throne) a battle of potentially apocalyptic repercussions begins to brew.

Thor must now learn what it really means to be a hero, as the Earth is assailed by Loki and his celestial minions. To do that, he might just have to employ some of Earth's own super-powered beings...

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Thor will take place within the same universe as previous Marvel Studios releases (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk) and, following the release of Captain America: The First Avenger next year, the character will join up with all these heroes to form part of the The Avengers, in a film about Marvel's superhero superteam set for a May 2012 release.
