An adult greater flamingo flew into the Salina salt pans earlier this afternoon, where it is being guarded by police officers from the Administrative Law Enforcement section and BirdLife Malta officials.

“Flamingos are uncommon visitors to Malta, with less than 10 seen each year on migration, some of which decide to stay overnight,” BirdLife said in a statement. “Salina salt pans is a bird sanctuary, and flamingos have taken refuge in the past.”
