Hondoq kiosk development application permit turned down

Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) welcomes decision refusing development application requesting kiosk extension

The Planning Commission has decided against granting a permit for the development of an extension to the kiosk in Hondoq.

In a statement, Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) said that it welcomed the decision taken by the Planning Commission in favour of the environment by refusing the development application.

Malta Tourism Authority had opposed the development noting that there was no need for further commercial commitments in the area as was being proposed through this development.

"This decision is a win for the environment and should serve as a reference point for any other potential proposals in the area that stand to harm this unique natural gem,” the FAA said.

FAA had applied for the area of Hondoq in Qala to be included within the Public Domain in June 2016. With the application still being processed, FAA calls on decision makers to keep to what was decided today by ensuring the site's inclusion as part of the Public Domain thereby guaranteeing that this sensitive site is truly safeguarded at all available levels of legislation.
