Vehicle catches fire in St. Julian’s tunnels

A vehicle caught fire in the Triq Manwel Dimech tunnels in St. Julian’s at around 10.00 am today.

The police report that smoke was billowing out of the tunnels as members of the civil protection department tried to quell the flames.

According to preliminary investigations, a Peugeot 106 was being driven towards Valletta by an 81-year-old Pembroke resident, when it caught fire.

The reason for the fire is as yet unknown, but nobody was injured in the incident. The road was closed for a short period, but it was re-opend soon after the site was cleared.

Police investigations are underway.
