The body of a man has been recovered from the sea in Marsascala, the Police's communications office has confirmed.

The discovery was made at about 11am, when the police was informed that a body was spotted floating in the sea in the area known as Il-Fajtata.

The man, a 31-year-old Serb national, was brought ashore by members of the Rapid Intervention Unit.

According to reports, the man's personal belongings, including a mobile phone, were found nearby.

Investigations by the district police are ongoing as officials try to determine whether foul play led to the man's death.
