Borg Olivier’s status update attracts ire from Facebook users
PN secretary-general’s comparison of PN and Labour women candidates attracts over-reaction on his Facebook wall.

A Facebook status update by Nationalist Party secretary-general Paul Borg Olivier attracted the ire of a veritable number of Facebook users, ostensibly because they felt insulted at Borg Olivier's comment on Labour's women candidates.
Borg Olivier may have stepped into murky territory when he said that the PN had fielded the highest number and percentage of women candidates, describing then as "all women of substance when compared to the weak female Labour team."
The comparison stoked an angry reaction from Facebook users - evidently Labour-leaning - and one Labour candidate, Desireé Attard.
But Borg Olivier has defended his comments on Facebook.
"I made no disparaging remarks towards the female Labour candidates," Borg Olivier later told the press during a press conference at the PN headquarters. "My comment primarily reflects the fact that the number of women candidates the PN has fielded is greater than that of Labour... and I as I said, they are all women of substance, a fact that puts them in a stronger position when compared to the weaker Labour candidates.

From where I'm sitting, I think that you being a lawyer an'all do know that that last bit about ''the weaker Labour candidates'' was disparaging and nothing less. And just in case, no I'm no Labour sympathizer, just on the fence watching!

The status update by Pawlu (Paprati)Borg Olivier should read like this . The PN has fielded the highest number of idiots for the General Elections . All candidates are of no substance when compaired with the Labour team .

I think nobody understood Paul Borg Olivier. He had made a mistake as he wanted to refer to himself and not to the labour team. At least he relised that the labour are a team compared to the nationalists since he just referred as PN.

"Some parties do have them" is an appropriate title for a political comedy series starring PBO. When will he ever learn that if he keeps his mouth shut he wont end up putting his foot into it.

So let's see on one side we have Claudette Pace (no comment), Kristy Debono (her husband was not given the green light so she stepped in) and Marthese Portelli (a very ineffective party president.....talk about weak). On the other side we have Deborah Schembri, Justyne Caruana and Joanne Vella Cuschieri, three very well respected lawyers one of which even has a "wicc ta nazzjonalista". I think the choice is pretty clear!

Paul Borg Olivier does not know when not to put his foot in his mouth, every time he opens it. "It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt" Politicians take note. This is a very critical time for all politicians and one must use constraint about what he/she will say and what he/she does.Capisce?
