121 AFM officials awarded long service medals

A total of 121 officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Malta have been awarded the Long Service and Efficiency medal, Home Affairs minister Manuel Mallia said.

Using the medal awarding ceremony at Luqa Barracks as a platform to outline the governmet’s agenda, home affairs minister Manuel Mallia said the government’s appreciation of the AFM personnel is now being put into practice.
While praising the bill allowing army personnel to join a union of their choice, Mallia argued that this right was sidelined and forgotten by previous governemnts.

The minister also used the ceremony to announce that the two reports compiled by the board of injustices are now complete and remedies will come into effect soon.
On his part, AFM Commander Brigadier Jeffrey Curmi thanked all the personnel for their service, and said that the qualities and values of the Maltese army were also recognised overseas.
