Gozo vocational fund for students launched

Rotary Club Gozo, in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo, has launched the Gozo Vocational Fund, which aims to give another opportunity to the island’s youths to further their careers.

Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo stated that the Ministry for Gozo is honoured to support Rotary Club Gozo in such an initiative and that thanks to such a fund, young people will benefit and help to contribute to Gozo with their success.

Refalo remarked how Gozo, with its small size and not few limitations, is still an island of opportunities and success. Refalo noted that there is an energy going on on this tiny island that is mostly attributable to the young generation.

“It is our responsibility to help our visionary young community make the leap, to create opportunity within a supportive administrative and legislative framework to make aspirations and ideas viable in the labour market,” said Refalo.

The Gozo Vocational Fund was created following Rotary’s fund-raising efforts over two years and was supported by Gozo businesses and by the Ministry for Gozo. The selection of beneficiaries will follow set criteria, after a public call for applications by Rotary Club Gozo.

Rotary Gozo’s President, Guy Kurkjian, said, “This is the start of an exciting new initiative for our island. Those young people who hope to further their careers often need help. Examples of what might be funded include short courses of study in Gozo, Malta or elsewhere; personal tuition or mentoring; the provision of books, tools or other relevant materials; or assisted work placement.”
