Update | Marsa thoroughfare re-opened
While closed earlier today, the Marsa thoroughfare towards Paola has since been reopened following a traffic accident involving a car and a motorcycle.
In a statement, Police said that a Vauxhall Nova collided with a Kymco People S125 motorcycle as they were driving in opposite directions.
The Vauxhall was being driven by a 26-year-old man from Hal-Tarxien, while the motorcycle was being driven by a 34-year-old man from Iklin. The accident took place on one of the carriage ways, causing traffic congestion on the Marsa road.
Police said that the motorcycle driver was taken to Mater Dei for medical care., He was later determined to be suffering from serious injuries but is not in critical condition.
The road where the accident took place was closed to traffic for a time, but had since been re-opened, police added. Earlier, a separate police statement recommended that motorists be prudent in their approach or to seek alternative routes.
