US urges Europe to solve crises
The United States has urged European leaders to “move quickly” and solve their financial problems in a bid to prevent another global crisis.
US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Europe must act quickly to control its debt crisis: “The crisis in Europe remains the central challenge to global growth. It is crucial that Europe moves quickly to put in place a strong plan to restore financial stability.”
In a statement following a meeting between the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) finance minister, Geithner said:
“Asian economies will need to do more to stimulate domestic demand growth - both so they are less vulnerable to slowdowns, such as the situation in Europe, and so they can continue to contribute to global growth.”
The APEC finance ministers voiced their support over the G20 leaders decision to increase global economic growth and recovery.
Sky News also reports that US President Barack Obama spoke separately with Germany’s Angela Merkel and France’s Nicolas Sarkozy about the eurozone financial crisis.
