60 killed in Syria protests
At least 62 people have been killed across Syria as thousands of anti-government demonstrators protested in several cities.
Witnesses and human right groups say many died when Syrian troops opened fire in Deraa – where the unrest began in mid-March. The security forces invaded the streets of Damascus and tear gas was reportedly fired as prayers ended.
Whilst the Syrian state media said that four soldiers had been killed and two others captured in a “terrorist” attack on their post in Deraa yesterday, medical sources told Reuters agency that 15 bullet-riddled civilian’s bodies had been received at one of the hospitals in Deraa.
Activists believe some 500 people have died since the beginning of the crackdown against regime President Bashar al-Assad.
