Iraq nearly scored on the 12th minute when Mohanad Abdulraheem’s header glanced off the post.

After this early chance, Brazil took control of the game, but were unable to break the well organised Iraqi defence. In fact, despite controlling possession, the host nation managed only six shots on target.

Their best chance came for Renato Augusto who received from William, but fired his volley off target from an ideal position.

"We need to apologise to the fans, to the people," said Brazil coach Rogerio Micale. "As the time passes and we can't score, the anxiety increases, and in this situation it's easier to make mistakes."

Iraq coach Abdulghani Alghazali said: "It's a historic day for Iraq to be able to draw against Brazil at its home. It's a great achievement for Iraqi football."

Following 0-0 draws against South Africa and Iraq, Brazil will now need to get a result against Denmark who are top of the group, after Skov’s 69th minute strike earned them a 1-0 victory over South Africa.
