ERA to earmark €1.6 million in public funds for marine environmental monitoring project

The Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) will be allotting the total sum it was allocated under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund for the implementation of a marine monitoring programme.

The two-year project, which will receive €1.6 million in public eligible funds, is aimed at developing better marine management practices to address increasing pressures caused by human activity.

In a statement, ERA said that through this project, it will continue its work towards achieving Good Environmental Status in marine waters.

ERA officer and project leader Miraine Rizzo said that the project will shed light on many uncertainties which are currently limiting the capacity to effectively manage the marine environment.

Of the funds, 75% come from EU funding.

ERA expects the total cost for the implementation of the monitoring programme to reach approximately €3 million as a result of its magnitude.
